Falcons Defeat Warriors in Kansas City Showdown

The Calvary University Warriors were defeated by the Kansas Christian College Falcons 58-79 on Tuesday night in Overland Park. Because of the close location and similar mission that both schools share, they play each other often, but tonight Kansas Christian had the upper hand.

The Warriors entered the game with a 2-2 record after beating Providence University College this past weekend.

The game started fast for Calvary as they grabbed an 8-2 lead. The first half was back and forth as neither team was able to gain control. The Falcons started pressing right before the break and it allowed them to take a seven point advantage into the locker room at the half.  During the second half Kansas Christian turned up their pressure and forced Calvary into numerous possessions without a shot. Calvary had 24 turnovers for the game. “We must get better at handling pressure,” Coach Sanders said. “That will be our focus moving forward.”

Zeb Green and Jay Lems were the story for the Warriors. Zeb tallied 21 points while shooting 6/10 from the field and 8/10 from the free throw line. Jay added 14 points while shooting 4/10 from behind the arc. Ben Jones added some quality minutes that were big in the first half as well.

“We played really hard at the beginning of the game,” Warrior forward Zeb Green said. “Although we still have a lot of work to do it is awesome to see how the team never gave up on each other no matter what the scoreboard said.”

With the loss, the Warriors move to 2-3 on the season. Next up, the Warriors will be on the road in Hot Springs, Arkansas on November 27 for a match-up with Champion Christian College
