Calvary Volleyball goes 1-1

8/30/16 CU vs BBC

KANSAS CITY, MO – Following a terrific match earlier this week where the Warriors won in five sets at Baptist Bible College, Manhattan Christian turned the tables on Calvary for a win in Kansas City on Thursday afternoon.

The Lady Warriors put forth a strong effort in their match on Tuesday against BBC.  They downed the Patriots of Springfield 3-2 (25-21, 15-25, 13-25, 27-25, 15-12).  The Lady Warriors struggled with injuries and a new lineup early as BBC went out to a 2-1 lead in the match.  Both teams struggled with consistency, but Calvary finally settled into a groove and was able to string together some runs to come back and win sets four and five.

“I told the team how proud I was of their fight, and I mean it,” said Coach Regier.  “I have rarely had a team respond so well after going two players down.  We kept our poise and kept coming.  Eventually, it paid off.”

On Thursday, Manhattan Christian College traveled to Kansas City to play Calvary in a Midwest Christian College matchup.  Calvary started out strong, matching MCC throughout the entire first set.  MCC started chipping away at the end of the first set and won a close one 21-25.  In set two, MCC dominated the Warriors with terrific serving.  Calvary could not find an answer, and their offense faltered.  In set three the Warriors regained some poise with their ball control and played the Thunder close losing 19-25.

“Unfortunately, our team was not prepared for the serving of a strong Manhattan team.  We have high expectations and are working hard to remedy that in our practices,” said Coach Regier.  “We have tough MCCC contests directly ahead of us and know we must improve.”

The Warriors welcome Ozark Christian College and Union College to Kansas City on Tuesday, September 20.
