Calvary University volleyball is excited to announce our newest signee for the 2020-2021 season, Cristela Jimenez of Dallas, TX. Cristela comes to us from Dillard University in New Orleans, LA. Cristela completed her Bachelor’s in Psychology this past May, graduating with honors. She played 1 year of volleyball on scholarship at Dillard before choosing to home in on academics her final 3 years. Cristela played 4 years of high-level volleyball at Molina High School in Dallas, TX where she met and played for Coach Johnson. Jimenez is an outside hitter, setter and defensive specialist who will be a versatile player for Calvary. She began playing volleyball at 13 years of age. Coach Johnson has a sense that the Lord has really worked this opportunity out for Calvary and for Cristela. Coach Johnson describes Cristela’s path to Calvary this way, “God placed her on my heart a few weeks ago so I reached out to her in hopes of hearing about what the Lord was doing in her life after finishing her university studies. It became clear very quickly that the Lord might have a place for Cristela at Calvary. After speaking with Cristela and her parents over video conference, I realized that her family was on board and hopeful for a grad-school home for Cristela in Kansas City.”
Cristela plans to complete our Organizational Leadership master’s program and hopes to fulfill a dream to be an athletic director in the not too distant future. When asked about the team aspect of volleyball Cristela shared that she loves being on a team and motivating others. Cristela is excited to advance her career as an athlete and student at Calvary. Cristela comes to Calvary with an open mind and heart. She notes, “I look forward to the discipleship opportunities on campus, God has brought me to Calvary for a reason, I can’t wait to see this through.” We celebrate together with Cristela and her parents John Miller and Luz Munoz. Please join us in giving a warm Calvary welcome to Cristela Jimenez!
