Lady Warriors Win Sixth Straight

Anna Davis rallied the Warriors inside, and Taylor Hunter provided the three-point range and transition baskets as the Lady Warriors defeated Ozark Christian College 76-46 on Tuesday night in Joplin, MO “It was good to come away with a win when we weren’t playing our best in the first half,” Coach Tressa Shoemaker said. “We struggled in the first quarter and just didn’t get things clicking right away. Thankfully, we were able to make adjustments and come away with the win.”

With the win, the Warriors picked up their first conference victory of the season and have now won six straight games. They battled the OCC Ambassadors who came into the game with a 2-3 record.

In the second quarter down by six, the Warriors looked to make some defensive and offensive adjustments. The defensive pressure was turned up a notch for CU to get things rolling. The Warriors used that defensive energy to cause Ozark turnovers and transition baskets. Calvary took a four-point lead into half-time.

The Warriors came out strong to start the 2nd half as their 1-2-2 defense helped Calvary to string together several defensive stops, and started great transition play to find open shooters for points. “This was a complete team effort tonight when I see 22 assists and 19 steals in the game,” Shoemaker said.  “We shot 47% from the field in the second half.  We had great offensive and defensive effort.”

Taylor Hunter fueled the Warriors offense as she scored 31 points.  Anna Davis added 16 while Hannah Sorenson contributed nine to the cause.   As the game drew to a close, the team continued to force turnovers and consistently pressured the Ambassadors into tough shots.  In the end, the Warriors were able to gain an important 76-46 conference road win.

With the win, the team moves to 6-1 on the season.
